Farewell Slumber

A peaceful new
     slumber found,
   The pain endured, ceased
   Watching in fear
     Waiting with dread
The end, bitter yet sweet
   brings comfort for the finish
     grief for an irretrievable loss

Slumber disrupted
  tears, ache, sorrow
     presence missed
Saying farewell brings angst
   Unease of tears misunderstood
     Comforting kin
        Hurting alone

Tis not goodbye
   Refuse to release
     Memories of laughter
       Recollected passion for life,
         for both clan and comrades
Vestiges of your shadow
   linger in corners, behind doors

Day by day
  the ache recedes
    memories bring smiles
The pain of your absence never erased
  the life you lived
    championed,
      cherished,
        beloved.

This weeks prompt Over at Velvet Verbosity for the 100 Word Challenge is “Slumber”. I wrote this prompt after my Facebook wall received numerous posts from friends, acquaintances, and bloggers who shared their loss of loved ones. Some sudden, some expected.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also linking up with Trifecta where they gave the word “New”, 3rd definition which says
3: having been in a relationship or condition but a short time
      This time….it’s not my grief but that of friends. Many around me are hurting and I hope this helps them. I’ve been there myself. I can only offer my empathy and my sympathy.
      Thanks so much for stopping by. Your comments are appreciated.
    The way the poem is structured, with each line angling down, almost as if the tension and stress is oozing away so slumber can grant sweet release is beautiful.
    At least that is how I saw it 🙂 I hope your words bring comfort
      Thanks Carrie. I hope they do as well. I like to “structure” poetry so it has a flow that matches the words. Sounds like I did my job this time.
  3. You describe the pain of loss so vividly here that I ache for your friends. Nothing ever takes away that raw wound.
      Thanks Jess. I ache for them as well, and some I don’t even know personally though I feel like I do through their blogs. Yes, sometimes you can cover the wound, but it eventually gets exposed again especially when you share grief with someone else.
  4. What a lovely way to provide consolation for your friends who are suffering.
    This week we were looking for the third definition of new as defined on the Trifecta website. Thanks for sharing this with us and don’t forget to come back tomorrow for the new prompt.
      I think I put the word “new” in the wrong place because it was referring to slumber, so my error in placement. I know it’s too late but I made a minor correction to the first & second line so it will fit the prompt. I want to keep the info about where I got my inspiration (the prompt) and want it to be correct 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. Your comment makes my post better. 🙂
    I’ve been here before too. It is a release but it still hurts to lose someone you love who is suffering.
