Trifecta’s Trifextra Week Fifty-Four Writing Challenge issued a challenge this weekend to “scour through your favorite pieces of literature and give us the best 33 words you can find.” Well this is quite a challenge, daunting in fact. I had to cheat a bit to get the 33 words. The crossed out words are those additional descriptive words that don’t take away the context of the quote. Without them, the quote is exactly 33 words.
The children’s book, “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” is an amazing story with adventure and an overall theme of persistence and fighting to get back to the ones you love. I love the story and there are so many great bits, but honestly, the end had me blubbering like an idiot and illustrate the reward for a truly miraculous journey.
Day In and Day Out 
Finding an exact 33 words was much harder than I anticipated. I like your idea of omitting the descriptive words to make it fit.
I haven’t read this, but I do remember looking at it in the bookstore. My daughter (and I – what can I say, I am a sucker for a good children’s book) has enjoyed other titles by Kate DiCamillo. I’m adding it to our reading list.

It really is a great book. I read it out loud to my daughter when she was five or six and we both just loved it. We have all of Kate DiCamillo’s books. Great read aloud books. My daughter, sister and niece are all elementary teachers and Edward is on all of their “read to the class” books.

This is a fantastic book! I have read it to my oldest daughter, as well as, to some of my Grade 2/3 classes at school. Kate DiCamillo is a terrific writer and I wholeheartedly recommend her and her books.
