Stink
lingering
hanging
worrying smell
One is immune
numb – oblivious
The other vulnerable
and bruised
memory
fear
dangerous smell
One has forgotten
and withdrawn
The other relives
vivid memories
sour
nasty
unbearable smell
One’s essence
bleeds reminders
The other retreats
scarred with worry
anger
wounded
disgusting smell
One is blinded
under water
The other veil drawn
sudden epiphany
a backward glance
the ruin exposed
The other decides
and chooses to escape
I really liked the back and forth distinction in this poem. The title, “Stink” drops you right into the muck of life described within the lines and how one tries to make sense of it while the other wants to avoid it as if turning away will make it disappear.

Thanks Lauren. It was important for me that there was distinction between them and I guess I got it done.
